Paulino Alcántara was born in 1896 in Manila, at the time part of the Spanish East Indies, and is widely regarded as the first Filipino football legend. He moved to Spain as a child and rose to stardom at FC Barcelona, where he became one of the club's earliest greats.

Alcántara was a prolific forward who played for Barcelona in the early decades of the 20th century, scoring hundreds of goals and winning numerous titles. He was among the very first footballers born in Asia to become a superstar at a European club, and is celebrated as a pioneering Filipino figure in world football.

After retiring, he worked as a doctor and also coached. He died in 1964, and today he is remembered as a football pioneer and a proud chapter in Filipino sporting history.
