Active — Debbie Gibson was one of the biggest teen-pop stars of the late 1980s, known for "Out of the Blue" and "Electric Youth". She has kept working in music and musical theatre and remains active, touring again with dates including her first Australian shows in decades.

Debbie Gibson was born Deborah Ann Gibson in Brooklyn, New York, in 1970, and was writing and recording her own songs as a teenager. She broke through in the late 1980s with a run of self-penned pop hits that made her one of the biggest young stars of her era.

Her 1987 album Out of the Blue was a landmark — often credited as the first album written, performed and produced by a teenager — and it produced the hits "Only in My Dreams", "Shake Your Love" and the title track. She followed it with Electric Youth in 1989, cementing her status as a pop phenomenon alongside contemporaries like Tiffany.

Gibson's career continued well beyond the 1980s as she moved into musical theatre, appearing in Broadway productions and stage shows, and kept recording. She has also been open about living with chronic illness, including Lyme disease, and in the mid-2020s returned to the road, including a first tour of Australia in decades.
