From New York to stardom
Born in Mount Vernon, New York in 1954, Denzel Washington rose through television in the 1980s and broke out on film with a string of acclaimed roles. Washington won the Best Actor Oscar for Training Day (2001), playing a corrupt and magnetic police detective.
