Jimmy Hoffa was one of the most powerful labor leaders in American history, serving as president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the nation's largest union. He built the union into a political and economic force, and his name became famous for both his power and his ties to organized crime.

On 30 July 1975, Hoffa was last seen waiting outside a suburban Detroit restaurant, the Machus Red Fox. He was expected to meet a former associate for lunch. He got into a car and was never seen or heard from again.

His disappearance became one of the most famous unsolved mysteries in American history. Countless searches, confessions and conspiracy theories have followed — theories range from organized-crime execution to a secret burial at a stadium — but Hoffa's body has never been located and no one has ever been successfully charged.
