Basketball: the GOAT and the dominant big man

Michael Jordan and Shaquille O'Neal defined the modern NBA. Jordan, regarded as the greatest of all time, built a dynasty with the Chicago Bulls and transitioned into a businessman and team owner. Shaq dominated in the paint, won four championships, and reinvented himself as an analyst and investor. Both remain towering figures in basketball and beyond.

Football: three generations of the beautiful game

Football's modern lineage is a study in continuity. Paulino Alcántara, born in Manila in 1896, was the first Filipino football legend and a Barcelona pioneer. Pelé, the only man to win three World Cups, made the game global. Ronaldo Nazário, the "R9", and Cristiano Ronaldo each defined eras of attacking play, while Lionel Messi — the record eight-time Ballon d'Or winner — completed the World Cup story with Argentina. Golf, tennis and badminton: individual brilliance

Away from team sports, individual legends built their own monuments. Tiger Woods won 15 majors and changed golf forever. Rafael Nadal, the "King of Clay", retired with 22 Grand Slams and a record 14 French Open titles. Where the sporting legends are now

The answer differs for each. Jordan and Shaq are businessmen and icons. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are still playing, though nearing the end; Messi has retired from the Argentine national team. Tiger Woods competes selectively. Nadal and Lin Dan have retired as legends. Pelé died in 2022, and Paulino Alcántara in 1964 — but their legacies endure.
