The Old National Stadium at Kallang was Singapore's premier sporting venue from its opening in 1973. With a capacity of around 55,000, it was an open-air stadium built for the nation's football matches, athletics and the annual National Day parades.

What made the stadium special was its atmosphere. The passionate crowds that packed it during football matches produced a deafening, unified roar that became famous as the "Kallang Roar" — a sound that could be heard across the neighbourhood, and a symbol of Singaporean sporting passion for a generation.

For decades, the Kallang stadium was the heartbeat of Singaporean sport, host to the Malaysia Cup and Singapore Cup football, the Singapore national team's biggest matches, and countless historic moments. Despite enormous public nostalgia, it was demolished in 2010 to make way for the new, covered Singapore Sports Hub. The old stadium's curved roof was removed, and nothing physical remains — only the memory of the roar.
