Maria Sharapova was born in 1987 in Russia and moved to the United States as a child to train. She became one of the greatest tennis players of her generation, winning all four Grand Slam singles titles over her career: Wimbledon in 2004, the US Open in 2006, the Australian Open in 2008, and the French Open in 2012 and 2014.
Sharapova was more than a player — she was a global celebrity and one of the highest-paid athletes in the world, building an empire around her name through endorsements and her candy company, Sugarpova.
She retired from professional tennis in February 2020, and has since focused on business, philanthropy and her personal life. She remains one of the most recognizable athletes of her era.
