Jaguar
The iconic British luxury car maker that has paused production and relaunched as an all-electric brand
Transformed — Jaguar, the iconic British luxury car brand, has been radically restructured by its parent Jaguar Land Rover. It has cut its model line down to a single model, halted most production, and is rebranding and relaunching as a pure-electric luxury brand — a high-stakes bet that has sparked both criticism and intrigue.
Jaguar is one of the world's most storied luxury car brands, founded in 1922 and long associated with elegant British engineering and iconic design. For decades it built some of the most admired sports cars and saloons on the market.
In the mid-2020s, Jaguar's parent company Jaguar Land Rover made a dramatic decision: to transform Jaguar into a pure-electric luxury brand. The company announced it would cull nearly its entire model line — ending most of its petrol, diesel and even the I-Pace electric SUV — to allow for a clean slate.
The transition has been abrupt. Jaguar cut its lineup down to a single model and halted most production, and its sales collapsed by around 97 percent during the gap. It has also launched a controversial rebrand and shown a new all-electric GT concept, the Type 00, meant to relaunch the marque at a higher, more exclusive price point.
The move is a calculated, high-risk bet: kill the old Jaguar and bet the name on an electric, ultra-premium future. It has divided car enthusiasts and observers, but it represents one of the boldest reinventions in modern automotive history.
