Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the famous boarding school at the heart of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. It is a grand, ancient castle where young wizards like Harry Potter learn magic, make friends and battle dark forces. Rowling set the castle in the wilds of the Scottish Highlands, far from the ordinary Muggle world.

Hogwarts is fictional, but it was given a very real cinematic home. The film adaptations used a number of British locations to stand in for the castle and its grounds. Alnwick Castle in Northumberland served as the exterior of Hogwarts in the first two films, and the picturesque Glenfinnan Viaduct in Scotland became the famous route of the Hogwarts Express. The magical world of Harry Potter has since become a global phenomenon, with theme parks and studios devoted to it.
